Sparkle T. Anderson, APR, CPC serves as Corporate Affairs Manager for Kroger. In this position, she manages a team responsible for public relations, internal communications, media relations and community affairs for Greater Houston, southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. Previously, she served as Director of Communications for the City of Pearland. In that role, the Communications Department that she led received more than 30 awards from the Emergency Management Association of Texas, American Marketing Association, International Association of Business Communicators and the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers. Another honor received by the department was the coveted Government Communications Team of the Year award from the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The same organization named her Public Relations Professional of the Year in 2016. When she transitioned from her role at the City of Pearland, Mayor Tom Reid issued a proclamation deeming February 1, 2018 as Sparkle Anderson Day in Pearland acknowledging her tireless efforts while working for the City of Pearland.
She is a proud member of the Mu Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. and the current 2nd Vice President of the organization’s charitable arm, Julia F. Thompson, Inc. She is a former United Way of Brazoria County Board Member and a former board member and Past President of the Public Relations Foundation of Houston - the charitable arm of the Houston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
She received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree from Rice University. She has received her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) and completed the Texas Christian University Bob Schieffer College of Communications’ School of Strategic Communications Certified Public Communicators Program (CPC) and the Leading, Educating, And, Developing (LEAD) program at the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service - Senior Executive Institute. Born with grey eyes, her birth name was derived from the Cameo song, "Sparkle" which is written about a girl with a sparkle in her eye. One of her favorite quotes is, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."
